Oh my goodness friends I am SO EXCITED to share with you a major life update- Patrick and I are officially homeowners!! We bought our first home at the end of November and we are in the process of getting all moved in!! This was a crazy, emotional, whirlwind of a journey and we could not be more excited.
So a little backstory… We were renting a cute little ranch house in Brookhaven, Georgia (you can see that home here!) and were loving growing our Atlanta roots in that home. In fact, we loved it so much (despite some of it’s quirks) that we decided we wanted to rent it for at least 2-3 years before buying a house. Well, life has a funny way of throwing you curveballs, and after only 9 months in the house our landlord let us know that he was selling it and we had to move out in December.
We took this as a sign to just make the leap and invest in a house of our own! Throughout the process, we pretended we were on House Hunters and made a priority list for the house that included:
- Minimum 3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms
- Flat backyard with enough space for the dog
- In one of the best public school districts (this felt a little crazy to think of because we don’t have kids yet, but necessary for the future!)
- Set back in a neighborhood / not near a major road
- An updated kitchen (this was not a project we wanted to take on!)
- A driveway/garage to park the car (our rental home did not have this!)
- Ideally, a more open floor plan
After a month of house hunting and seeing almost 40 houses in the area, we finally found “the one”. The house was built in the 80’s and was sold about a year ago to a house flipper. The flipper gutted and remodeled every interior room to have an updated, airy, open feel– we fell in love! The house also sits on almost an acre with a sun-porch and lots of outdoor entertaining space which we cannot wait to utilize once it warms up.
There are still lots of things we want to do to this house over the next couple of years to make it even more “us” (and I promise I will do a full home tour on the blog soon once we are completely moved in!) but in the meantime, here are some blank slate pictures of the house before we moved in!
Please let us know if you have any advice for us as first time homeowners in the comments below- we could take any and all advice we can get!!
