Why You Should Consider a First Look

To do a first look or not… that always seems to be a question brides are pondering as they approach their big day! And it’s a super important one! Not only is this the moment your groom will see you for the first time, but it also will completely dictate your wedding day schedule and flow of the day! So whether you’re a bride who has dreamed of her groom seeing her for the first time as she walks down the aisle or you’re open to the idea of a first look, I wanted to share the biggest reasons why I strongly suggest that all of my couples opt for a first look on their wedding day!

You’ll actually get 30-40% MORE portraits!

That’s right! You’re investing a lot of money into your wedding photography and with a first look, you’ll receive WAY more portraits of you two! And honestly, those are the most important images of the day and the ones you’ll send as Christmas cards, decorate your home with, and the ones your great-grandchildren will one day look back on. With a first look, you make the most out of your investment!

You’ll get to enjoy the surprise freely (without an audience!)

A first look means you get to have intimate time on your wedding day with your man! Most brides don’t realize that when you come down the aisle and totally shock him with how gorgeous you are, he can’t fully express how wowed he is. He can’t run up to you, touch you, or even SPEAK to you while you’re standing in front of all of your guests. You have to wait until the ceremony is over for him to react and tell you everything he’s feeling (and let’s be honest… that reaction probably won’t be the same as the initial first look!)

Extend your wedding day by 3 HOURS!

The best part of the first look? It allows you to extend your wedding day and spend more time with your family and friends! Sounds like a win-win, right? Normally the wedding day would start when you come down the aisle, then the ceremony ends, you rush through portraits so that you’re not late for introductions and then it’s reception time. With a first look, your wedding day is extended by almost 3 hours! Instead of feeling rushed for your bridal party portraits you can actually enjoy them and have fun hanging out with your best friends on your big day! The whole first half of your gallery will be filled with images just from this fun pre-ceremony time!

Your only alone time!

First Looks allow you to be together and alone on your wedding day. From my own experience, when Patrick and I saw each other during our first look, not only was it intimate, but it was our only time to be alone the entire day! I cried, we laughed, and then it hit us….we were about to get MARRIED! And that put us in the best mood for our romantic portraits!! Normally, portraits can feel a little rushed right after family portraits, and it can be hard to get back into that “omg we’re married, I love you so much!” mode… especially with your family around and when you’re probably itching to go celebrate with your friends! When you share a first look you are ready to love on each other and it always produces some of the most romantic portraits!

Diminishes the nerves!

First looks allow you to get rid of the nerves! Some of my couples aren’t sure what they think of the whole first look thing at first. However, because they haven’t experienced their wedding day before, they don’t realize how nerve racking it can be. This allows you some time to shake the nerves and relax together!

So there you have it! Those are some of the reasons why my couples choose to share a first look and why they always LOVE it! If you’re having trouble deciding if a first look is right for you, I hope this helped with sharing how they can be so amazing!
