A year ago today, Patrick and I got married! Although we opted to exchange traditional vows during our ceremony, we privately exchanged letters to each other the morning of our wedding. So today, in honor of our first year of marriage, I’m sharing the letter I wrote to Patrick on our wedding day– with his permission, of course 🙂
Eight years ago, I could have never realized the incredible journey we would embark on together. I honestly never would have believed that the confident 15-year-old boy with the the curly fro and goofy smile would grow into the strong, passionate, hardworking, handsome and loving man that will be waiting for me at the alter.
I am so lucky to have found someone who challenges me, loves me so well, and who is truly my best friend. Even after all these years together, you still manage to give me butterflies. And I don’t think the butterflies will ever go away.
You inspire and push me everyday to dream bigger, work harder, and love deeper. I love your quirky humor, your obsession with the Baltimore Ravens, your love of chicken wings. I adore your handsome smile, the warmth of your hands when you hold mine, the way you look at me. I love the nights where we snuggle on the couch with a bottle of wine, the way you take care of me, the way you listen to my crazy ideas and big dreams. I love you for you, and who you inspire me to be.
I love that over the past 8 years, you’ve never allowed me to face life’s challenges alone, you’ve stayed by my side through all the ups and downs.
8 years. 8 years of experiencing life together. From graduating Oakton High School, to long-distance through college, to my big move to Miami. We’ve grown so much together and for that, I am so thankful.
Patrick- you are the reason that I strive each and every day to be a better person. You have shown me what it means to live life to the fullest and to give my heart fully. You are my soulmate, you are my other half.
So today is the big day. I know we will look back on our wedding day as the beginning of a new journey. I know it will be challenging at times, but an incredible journey nonetheless. No matter how old we grow, I will never forget this day, our wedding day.
I promise to inspire you like you’ve always inspired me. I promise to life you up when you need support, to always share a bottle of wine with you and to snuggle with you every night for the rest of our lives. I promise to always be your best friend, adventure buddy, and other half. You are my whole world and I can’t wait to be your wife. I never realized that I could love someone as much as I love you.
With love, hugs, kisses, and snugs.
