I’m so excited to share all about our 2018 Christmas in the Caribbean! This year was my 10th Christmas with Patrick, but it was the first time I’ve ever spent Christmas day with his family. The Marlow family has a few fun and unique holiday traditions that we got to partake in this year. Christmas in the Caribbean is actually one of their favorite traditions as well as making/decorating Christmas cookies and eating them for breakfast on Christmas morning!
Bonaire is a little island 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela in the ABC Island chain (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao). The Marlows have spent Christmas on Bonaire as a family once before (actually, 11 years ago to be exact, which was right when Patrick and I first started “talking” on Facebook messenger our sophomore year in high school!). Bonaire is one of the Marlow family’s favorite islands to visit because it truly has some of the best scuba diving in the world. If you’re a diver, I highly, highly recommend visiting… most of the diving is done from the beach so you throw your gear in the back of a truck, park on the side of the road, and see some of the most flourishing reefs in the world just 25 yards or so off the shore. It. Is. Incredible.
Here are some of my favorite pictures from our week in Bonaire– enjoy!
We stayed in the most incredible home right on the water– we even went diving right off the ladder from our house!
On our first day, Patrick and I went on an adventure by driving around the entire island! From white coral beaches, to the mountains on the north side, and the desserts in-between– it was fun getting lost without phone service/GPS and seeing what we came across!
One of our favorite discoveries was the Cadushy Distillery where they made liquor from cacti!
Then there was the diving… LOTS of diving! Definitely the highlight of the trip! (Underwater pictures courtesy of my father-in-law!)
Another highlight was our night dive– diving 65 feet underwater in the pitch dark is slightly terrifying but also incredible to see all the creatures come out at night!
And of course we had to do a group picture in our matching family rash guards!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is already enjoying the new year!!!
